People worldwide are watching with deep interest what will happen next Tuesday, during the U.S. federal election. Our exposure to the U.S., primarily through the various American outlets accessible by Canadians, has deeply influenced our own culture in subtle and not so subtle ways. Many in the U. S. are holding their collective breath as they wonder how people will respond to the outcome of this election. How do we respond in life when things don’t go the way we want them to? Do we fret? Stew? Vent? Are filled with anger? Despair? What does the wisdom literature have to say to us regarding our involvement with the political process, especially when there are so many divisive issues? Meanwhile, in Canada, laws are silently passing that will have significant future ramifications to our ‘religious liberties.’
